Eagles Fire First-Day 302 At Third Great Lakes Regional

In Day 1 of the third Great Lakes Regional tournament at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., on Sunday (April 12), Ashland University's men's golf team authored a team total of 302 for a tie for 16th in the 31-team field.

Junior Brandon Nixon led the AU effort on Sunday, carding an even-par 72 and finishing the first day in a tie for 15th individually. Senior Jake Houston was two-over 74, and junior Austin Schreiber was three-over 75. 

Freshman Chandler Walnsch ended the day with a round of 81, and senior Nick Adkins fired a round of 85.

Missouri-St. Louis and Northwood are the first-round co-team leaders, each with a total of 292. Grand Valley State (293), Walsh (294), McKendree (295), Indianapolis (295), Northern Michigan (296) and Lake Superior State (296) all are within four shots of the leaders.

The Eagles will return to the links for Day 2 of the regional on Monday (April 13).
