Ashland University's men's basketball team has been chosen to finish second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's South Division in the 2016-17 preseason poll released on Wednesday (Oct. 26) morning.

The Eagles received one of seven first-place votes in the South, and 29 overall points. Findlay is picked to win the South, having received five first-place votes and 34 overall points.

In 2015-16, Ashland was 25-6 overall, won a share of the GLIAC regular-season championship for the first time and earned an outright South Division crown for the first time.

In the North Division, Saginaw Valley State is the favorite, having garnered seven of eight first-place votes and 49 overall points. Ferris State (40) is second, and Lake Superior State (one first-place vote, 33) is third.

In addition to the preseason poll, Ashland senior guard Boo Osborne has earned a spot on the 2016-17 GLIAC preseason all-conference team in the South Division. In 2015-16, Osborne was a second-team All-GLIAC choice, as well as a member of the All-GLIAC Defensive Team, following a season in which he averaged 12.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, shot a team-high 77.4 percent from the free-throw line and collected 57 3-point field goals and 47 steals, both tops on the team.

Ashland will begin the 2016-17 campaign at the Indianapolis Tournament on Nov. 12 at 3:15 p.m. against the host Greyhounds.
