WEEKEND LOOK AHEAD: The Eagles hit the road for the longest road trip (by distance) of the season, traveling to Grand Valley State and Ferris State on the western side of Michigan. The Eagles are tied with the Lakers for seventh place in the GLIAC Tournament race with the tiebreaker on the line on Thursday night. Ferris State sits in third place overall in the GLIAC. The Eagles have not won in Allendale or Big Rapids since the 2001-02 season when they won in both places.
THE HISTORIC 1,000: Junior forward Evan Yates (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) scored his 1,000th point in an AU uniform last Thursday at Ohio Dominican. His free throw with 2:41 left to play made him the 22nd AU player to ever hit that mark. With at least five games to play in his junior season, Yates has a good chance to score 1,500 points in his career. Entering this week, he has scored 1,012 career points.
WON ON THE ROAD, WON AT HOME: The Eagles swept a pair of games against GLIAC South competition last weekend, beating Ohio Dominican wire-to-wire, 69-58, in Columbus on Thursday before a come-from-behind win over Tiffin, 73-68, at Kates Gymnasium on Saturday. Four players averaged at least 14.5 points per game in the two wins, including sophomore forward Will Evans (Lexington, Ky./Christian Academy), who recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds at ODU on Thursday.
