On the heels of a 20-3 win on Saturday (Sept. 23) night against No. 2-ranked Ferris State at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field, Prater Jr. and Tarnowski were named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, on Monday (Sept. 25) morning.
Prater Jr. was the leader of a defense which kept NCAA Division II's top-ranked offense to just three points and 228 total yards on Saturday night. He collected seven total tackles (four solo), a sack, two tackles for loss and three pass breakups.
Tarnowski punted nine times for a 31.6-yard average, both gross and net, and landed six punts inside the FSU 20-yard line and another one on the 20. The six boots inside the 20 landed at the 18, 5, 13, 13, 11 and 13.
The awards for Prater Jr. and Tarnowski are the second and third of the 2017 season for the Eagles. Tarnowski was the league's Offensive Player of the Week in Week 3, and he becomes the first Ashland player to earn two conference weekly honors in the same season since kicker/punter Gregg Berkshire in 2011.
Prater Jr.'s award is his first, and Tarnowski has earned the third of his Eagle career.
