Ashland University Director of Athletics Al King has announced the hire of veteran broadcaster David Wilson as play-by-play announcer for Eagle football games, beginning with the 2016 season.
"We are happy to welcome Dave Wilson to the AU football broadcast booth," said King. "Dave will bring a wide range of experiences to the broadcasts. He's a highly-regarded professional broadcaster who will maintain the high-quality broadcasts our fans have come to expect over the years. He has a passion for his profession, and that comes through quickly when you meet him.
"He's excited to join us, and we're thrilled to bring him on board to broadcast our football games."
Wilson will team up with color commentator Don Graham, the president of the AU Gridiron Club who has done Eagle football on the radio for 23 years in two different stints. Wilson and Graham will be on the mic for all 11 Eagle regular-season football games in 2016, as well as any postseason contests, on WNCO-AM 1340 and iHeartRadio, beginning with the season- and home opener Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. against Mercyhurst.
"I am very excited to work with Ashland University athletics and become a member of the broadcast team for Eagles football," Wilson said. "The excitement and winning attitude on campus is evident, and I want to thank Al King for this outstanding opportunity. I am looking forward to working with Coach (Lee) Owens, his staff and players, as well as the staff at WNCO, as we bring Eagles football to our fans all over the country."
Wilson brings a long and varied broadcasting resume to Eagle football broadcasts. A resident of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Wilson is in his fifth season as the radio voice of the Class AA Akron RubberDucks. The 2016 campaign is Wilson's 20th in professional baseball.
Wilson, who previously did play-by-play for Case Western Reserve football from 2007-15, also has been the radio play-by-play voice for Kent State University's women's basketball team for the past six years, in addition to occasional assignments for KSU men's basketball and volleyball.
He also is a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Radio Network, doing state championship games in football, basketball, baseball and softball.
On television, Wilson has called Big Ten, Mid-American Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference college football and basketball on ESPN3. Since 2013, he has been a member of SportsTime Ohio's broadcast team for OHSAA title events such as softball, hockey, girls basketball and volleyball. Wilson also can be heard doing football, basketball, volleyball and soccer on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
