Ashland University Releases 2015 Football Schedule

Ashland University announced its 2015 football schedule on Wednesday (Feb. 4), a 10-game schedule that includes three home night games, two home games against 2014 NCAA Division II playoff teams and a home defense of the Traveling Trophy.

The Eagles' 2015 schedule once again will feature games in the first 10 weeks of the season, starting Saturday, Sept. 5 at Lake Erie. Ashland will play at Fawcett Stadium in Canton against Walsh on Saturday, Sept. 12, before returning to at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field for the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 19 against GLIAC South Division-champion Ohio Dominican, which advanced to the NCAA Super Region Four finals in 2014.

Ashland will play a second consecutive home night game on Saturday, Sept. 26 against rival Findlay before going back to Fawcett Stadium for a game on Saturday, Oct. 3 against Malone. The second half of the 2015 season will begin on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Saginaw Valley State.

The Eagles then will play three of their final four regular-season games at home. On Saturday, Oct. 17, Ashland will look to defend the Traveling Trophy against longtime rival Hillsdale. The Chargers will make their first trip to Ashland since 2010, when they were the 13th-ranked team in Division II.

Following the final regular-season road game on Saturday, Oct. 24 against Northern Michigan, Ashland returns to play the final two games of the regular campaign at home against Grand Valley State on Saturday, Oct. 31, and against 2014 Division II playoff qualifier Michigan Tech on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Halloween-night game against the Lakers will be Grand Valley's first in Ashland since 2009, when GVSU was ranked No. 6 in the country.

The 2015 Purple and Gold Spring Game has been set for Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field. The football program's annual golf outing will precede the game that day at 10 a.m. at Brookside Golf Course.

Ashland went 8-2 overall and in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference during the 2014 season, finishing second in the GLIAC South Division. Among the players returning for the 2015 season is reigning GLIAC Freshman of the Year, quarterback Travis Tarnowski, and defensive end Chase Hoobler, who earned All-GLIAC First Team honors after transferring to Ashland to Division I Indiana.
