Two Ashland University football players have been named to the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) preseason All-America team.
Defensive lineman Jamie Meder (Parma, Ohio/Valley Forge) and linebacker Cody Bloom (Napoleon, Ohio) have been named to the BSN honorable mention All-America list. Both players will be juniors in 2012.
Meder was a first team All-GLIAC selection in 2011. In 2010 he was the GLIAC freshman of the year. Last season, Meder recorded 53 tackles (24 solo) and a team-high 10.5 tackles for loss. Meder tied for seventh in the conference in tackles for loss. The defensive lineman also led the team in forced fumbles (2). He also had three sacks and blocked one kick.
Bloom was second in the GLIAC in tackles (109/53 solo/9.9 tackles per game). He was fourth on the team in tackles for loss (7.5). Bloom was a second team All-GLIAC selection. He was the first AU player to register 100 or more tackles in a season since 2008.
Ashland was 6-5 last season. The Eagles open the 2012 season on Thursday, Aug. 30, when they host Indianapolis at 7 p.m.
