A strong start in the final regular-season series of 2016 has earned Ashland University junior left-handed pitcher Mike Gentile the Week 11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Pitcher of the Week award.
Gentile made his fourth start of the season on Friday (May 6) at Findlay, and improved to 2-1 thanks to seven shutout innings against the Oilers. He allowed five hits and a walk and struck out eight, lowering his season earned-run average to 2.70.
Starting the season as a reliever, Gentile has appeared in a team-high-tying 16 games (12 relief outings), and is second on the team in both innings (43 1/3) and strikeouts (51). In his four starts this spring, Gentile is 2-0 with six runs (five earned) allowed and 20 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings.
