Baseball Dips To Sixth In Second Midwest Region Rankings

There was a lot of movement in the second set of 2016 NCAA Division II Midwest Region baseball rankings, released on Wednesday (May 4) afternoon.

Ashland University has dropped two spots from fourth to sixth in the region. The Eagles were part of a big shift in the region in one week, as all but No. 1 Quincy has a new ranking from just seven days ago.

AU is 28-17 overall, 19-7 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 15-5 in the GLIAC South Division. The Eagles have won the South, and have qualified for the 2016 GLIAC Tournament, May 12-15 in Xenia, Ohio.

The third release of regional rankings will be May 11, and the Division II postseason selection show will be May 15 at 10 p.m. on NCAA.com.

Eight teams from each region qualify for the NCAA postseason, May 19-23 at on-campus sites. In the Midwest, the champions of the GLIAC, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference receive automatic bids.

The 2016 Division II Baseball Championship is May 28-June 4 in Cary, N.C.

Ashland will finish the regular season with a four-game set at Findlay on Saturday (May 7) and Sunday (May 8).
