Ashland University third baseman Wade Kaido was named to a pair of all-region teams on Thursday (May 15).
Kaido, a senior, was named to the Daktronics Inc., All-Midwest Region First Team. That unit is selected by sports information directors in the region. As a first team pick, Kaido moves on to the All-America ballot.
Kaido was also named to the American Baseball Coaches All-Midwest Region First Team. This team is picked by coaches in the region. Again, as a first team selection, Kaido moves on to the national All-America ballot.
Kaido ended the 2014 season with a .375 batting average. He had 11 doubles, three triples, two homers and 31 RBI. Kaido's slugging percentage was .535 and his on-base percentage was .497. He had 54 hits.
Designated hitter Kyle Brooks joins Kaido on the Daktronics all-region first team. Brooks hit .346 this season with a homer and 25 RBI. He is now on the national ballot.
Shortstop Austin Walts was named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region second team. Walts hit .384 with 11 doubles, a triple and 29 RBI. Walts had an on-base percentage of .441 and a slugging percentage of .459.
