The AU baseball team won its fourth consecutive game on Friday (Mar. 14) thanks to an offensive assault that collected 15 runs and 22 hits.
The Eagles won at Cedarville, 15-1. The win gives Ashland a 9-4 record. Cedarville is 8-6.
Shortstop Austin Walts was 3-for-5 with a double and drove in two runs. Infielder Mike Lewandowski was 3-for-6 with two RBI and a pair of doubles. First baseman Tyler Gray was 3-for-4 and outfielder Alex Sortwell was 3-for-5 with a double. Second baseman Stephen James and outfielders Nick Edwards and Mackenzie Hampshire were all 2-for-4. Hampshire and James drove in two runs apiece.
The Eagles rapped out six doubles.
Vince Frate started and pitched the first five innings. He permitted a run on four hits. Frate, who is 4-0, walked one and fanned eight. Mitch Cox finished the game with four excellent innings. He didn't allow a hit or a run.
The Eagles scored five runs in both the third and seventh innings.
The loss went to Jordan Ammon (1-3). Cam McWilliams had two of Cedarville's four hits.
The Eagles and Yellow Jackets will play a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 15).
