Baseball Team Opens With Win

The Ashland University baseball team opened its season on Friday (Mar. 2) in Florida with an 8-4 victory over Minnesota State-Mankato.

Sophomore third baseman Tyler Gray (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) banged out three hits and drove in three runs. Gray had a double and a homer.  Junior first baseman Austin Erb (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) had three hits and drove in a pair of runs.

The Eagles used four pitchers.  Senior Aaron Hilt (Richmond, Ohio/Richmond Edison) started and lasted five innings to pick up the win. He allowed four runs, but all were unearned, on seven hits.

AU also used junior righty Brad Thomas (Orrville, Ohio), sophomore lefty Cole Hudson (Dresden, Ohio/Zanesville) and junior right-hander Zach Botjer (Deshler, Ohio/Sinclair C.C.).

AU and Minnesota State-Mankato will play again on Saturday (Mar. 3).
