The Ashland University baseball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Friday (Mar. 11) in Auburndale, Fla. Regional foe Saint Joseph's, which plays in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, held off the Eagles, 4-3 in 10 innings.
Ashland got another quality start from junior right-hander Eric Vaughan (Delta, Ohio/Owens C.C.). Vaughan, in his first year at AU, went eight innings and allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits. He walked three and struck out six.
The Pumas scored the game-winning run with one out in the 10th inning. That score resulted in a loss for Andrew Pinkleman (Delta, Ohio/Evergreen) who came out of the bullpen to throw 1.2 innings. SJC got to Pinkleman for a run on three hits. Pinkleman walked one and whiffed two.
AU has two games remaining on its Florida trip. Both of those games will be played on Saturday (Mar. 12), against Stonehill and Southwest Minnesota State.
