The Ashland University baseball team won its sixth consecutive game Wednesday (Mar. 9) in Auburndale, Fla., holding off Mansfield, 3-2
The Eagles got another outstanding pitching performance from sophomore Brad Thomas (Orrville, Ohio). Thomas (1-1), in his second start of the season, limited the Mounties (4-2) to a pair of runs on five hits in 7.1 innnings. He walked three and struck out five before turning the game over to Andrew Pinkleman (Delta, Ohio/Evergreen). Pinkleman worked the final 1.2 innings to get his second save on the trip.
Ashland (7-1) scored twice in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. That lead grew to 3-1 in the fifth inning when Tyler Gray (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) singled home Evan Melendez (Amherst, Ohio/Steele).
Shayne Herold (LeRoy, N.Y./Genesee C.C.) was AU's leading hitter, he went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. The pitchers dominated the action in this game, both teams had just five hits.
AU will play a twinbill with Slippery Rock on Thursday (Mar. 10).
